nissan pathfinder

In 1986, the Nissan Pathfinder was introduced as a two-door vehicle built on the frame of the maker’s new hard body pickups. Fast forward more than three decades, and the Pathfinder remains a popular SUV and one of Nissan’s best sellers.

The SUV has gone through many transformations over the years, and the 2021 Nissan Pathfinder will bring a few of its own changes. While full details are not yet available, we do know that the Pathfinder won’t be getting a major overhaul. Instead, smaller changes will fine tune some of the things drivers already love about this vehicle.

Here’s what we know so far:

Starting Price: $33,500

The low-end trim models start at $33,500 while buyers will pay up to $45,000 for the top trim level. This is a small increase from the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder prices which ranged from $31,980 to $42,920.

Exterior

The look of the Pathfinder will remain much the same, but the front grill may get a bit of an update making it look more formidable.

Trim Levels

It’s expected that the 2021 Nissan Pathfinder will have four trim options similar to the trim levels for the 2020 model. The high-end trim level will have a starting price of about $45,000.

What’s Under the Hood

The 2021 Nissan Pathfinder will retain its 3.5-liter V6 which pushes out 284 HP. You can also opt for a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged Inline-4 if you go with the top trim level.

Technology and Safety

While no specific details have been released about new features, you can expect the onboard tech and safety to be updated to keep up with the latest innovations.

Since the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder earned 5 out of 5 stars for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2021 version is sure to boast impressive safety offerings as well.

Will There Be a Hybrid Version?

Will a hybrid version of the Nissan Pathfinder be available in 2021? The rumor mill says yes, but this is not yet confirmed. If there is, this will be the maker’s second attempt at selling a hybrid version of the Pathfinder. The last time they tried was in 2014, but it was discontinued due to lackluster sales. Renewed interest in eco-friendly vehicles may help a 2021 hybrid Pathfinder to be successful.

When Is the 2021 Nissan Pathfinder Coming Out?

The tentative release date of November 2020 is subject to change. Several makers have had to push back release dates of their new offerings due to manufacturing delays related to COVID-19. Nissan has made no official announcement about such a delay, but it is a possibility. As of this writing, however, we still expect to see the new Pathfinder on the lots in late fall.
